김성아 교수의 주요 연구분야는 BIM, 파라메트릭 디자인과 설계최적화를 접목하는 디자인컴퓨팅, 빅데이터의 분석과 뉴미디어를 결합하는 스마트 공간 구현 등이다. 설계 자동화, 설계 창의성, 스마트 시티 및 BIM 분야의 주요 국가 연구 프로젝트를 수행하였다. 부산대학교에서 건축공학 (학사)과 건축계획학 (석사)을 전공하였으며, 하버드대(Harvard University)에서 CAAD (MDesS), 스위스연방공대(ETH)에서 CAAD (Nachidiplom), 그리고 하버드대에서 건축학/CAAD  (Doctor of Design)을 전공하였다. 박사학위논문, Version Management in Computer-Aided Architectural Design (1997)은 건축 설계 창의성과 생산성을 증진하기위한 컴퓨터 매개 설계지원환경에서 디자인 버전의 개념과 활용 프레임워크를 제시하였다. 명지대학교 건축학부에 재직하였고 2002년부터 성균관대학교 건축학과에서 재직중이다. 현재 한국BIM학회 회장직(2021 ~ 2022)을 수행하고 있다.

Prof. Sung-Ah Kim offers courses in computer applications in design, and teaches design studio in architecture. His research focuses on the aspects of design creativity in a digitally mediated architectural design process. His research interests include Computational Design,  BIM and Smart Space Design.
He is the chairman of Korea Institute of Building Information Modeling (KIBIM) since 2021. He received the BE and ME from Busan National University, the MDesS from Harvard University, the Nachdiplom in Architecture from ETH Zurich, and the Doctor of Design from Harvard University.

Seongjun Kim is in combined masters and PhD programs. His main research interests include the application of machine learning in architectural design. He received his B.E. from Sungkyunkwan University.

Yang Seung-won studied architecture at Sungkyunkwan University and is currently attending the combined masters and Ph.D programs on “Smart City & Space Design” track at the Department of Convergence Engineering for Future City. The main areas of interest are visualization and optimization of architectural data. And he interested in expressing information about the architectural design process based on these contents in digital media. At the time of his bachelor’s degree, he participated as a graphic designer for the remodeling project of Myeong-dong Young Plaza B1F at SOA Design, an interior office, in 2016. And in 2017, he conducted a project of Sungkyunkwan University at the Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale and participated in the exhibition. Since 2019, he has been working as an assistant instructor for digital-related classes at Sungkyunkwan University’s Department of Architecture, and is conducting various attempts to remove entry barriers for digital media.

양승원 연구원은 성균관대학교에서 건축학 학사를 거쳐 현재 미래도시융합공학과의 석박통합과정에 Smart City & Space Design 트랙으로 재학중이다. 주요 관심분야는 데이터 시각화와 최적화이며, 이러한 내용을 바탕으로 진행되는 건축 설계과정의 정보들을 디지털 미디어로 표현하는 것에 흥미를 갖고 있다. 학사 재학과정 당시, 2016년 인테리어 사무소인 SOA 디자인에서 명동 영플라자 B1F 리모델링 사업의 그래픽 디자이너로 참여했으며, 2017년에는 서울도시건축비엔날레의 성균관대 프로젝트를 진행, 전시에 참여했다. 2019년부터 성균관대학교 건축학과의 디지털 관련 수업의 조교로 활동중이며, 디지털 매체의 진입장벽을 해소하는 다양한 시도를 진행하고 있다.

Mojgan Rezakhani is currently a Doctoral candidate at DIG (Design Informatics Group) under the directorship of Professor Sung Ah Kim at SKKU, South Korea, where her research focuses on the field of integrated design expertise in Smart construction, Environmental management and Computational of Design based on technology-centered knowledge. Mojgan holds BSc. in Architectural Engineering from Tabriz university and M.Arch. from Science and Research Branch, Tehran in Iran. Her Thesis in Master Architectural Engineering, tackled deployable structures based on scissor structure and the obtained geometry from these structures would be successfully used in smart facades. Prior to joining the DIG in 2020, Mojgan has worked as a designer in Architecture offices in Tehran. She was interested in research about sustainability and Energy in building design so published some articles about these subjects. Mojgan’s research agenda at the DIG aims to gain valuable research experience by digital design methods and using generative design, parametric design, and BIM in order to optimize Building and also studying about Artificial intelligence and using it in construction.

Jungho Yeom is a PhD student in Design Informatics Group. His main research interests include human-centered smart space design, spatial experience design, and spatial information model. He received his B.S. and M.Arch. from Sungkyunkwan University (supervised by prof. Kim Sung-Ah) and Master of Arts in Architecture from National University of Singapore (supervised by prof. TAN Beng-Kiang). He has been a UX researcher at LG Electronics since 2011.

염정호 박사과정의 주요 연구 관심 분야는 인간중심의 스마트 공간 계획, 공간 경험 디자인, 그리고 공간 정보 모델이다. 그는 성균관대학교 건축공학과 학/석사 연계과정 졸업 후 싱가포르국립대학교 건축과 석사(MA.Arch)학위를 받았으며, 2011년부터 LG전자 UX연구소에 근무하고 있다.

Moon Seong-wan studied architecture design at Kyunghee university and currently a master of the Department of Convergence Engineering for Future City.

문성완 연구원은 경희대학교 건축학과 학사 후 현재 성균관대학교 미래도시융합공학과 석사 재학중이다.

Hee Gun Chong received his B.A. in Architecture and M.A. in Department of Global Smart City from Sungkyunkwan University and is currently a Ph.D. student in Department of Global Smart City. His research interests include architectural design and spatial computing using VR/AR and AI.

정희건 연구원은 성균관대학교에서 건축학 학사, 글로벌스마트시티융합전공 석사를 거쳐 현재 글로벌스마트시티융합전공의 박사과정으로 재학중이다. 주요 관심분야는 VR/AR과 AI를 활용한 건축 설계와 공간 컴퓨팅이다.

Meet Luan, a member of our team from Vietnam. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Sungkyunkwan University in the Department of Global Smart City, Luan’s academic journey includes a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a subsequent Master’s degree in Urban Management, both obtained in Vietnam.

Here at our DIG, guided by Prof. Kim Sung-Ah, Luan actively explores the intersection of architecture and technology, honing in on the practical applications of AI in design.

His real-world experience includes a leadership role in a design team at Baumschlager Ebeler in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Additionally, Luan has contributed to various design studios in roles as a designer, adding a diverse range of experiences to his professional background.

Beyond academia and his professional ventures, Luan shares his knowledge as a lecturer at Van Lang University, Faculty of Architecture in Vietnam. As a passionate educator, he aims to inspire creativity in students.

Luan’s research interests include the use of AI in architecture design, building simulation, and computational design. Presently, he is engaged in projects such as utilizing deep learning and augmented reality for daylight analysis. Moreover, Luan is contributing to the generative design process of a Software Defined Housing project.

Hiba Feroz received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from The American University in Dubai and is currently doing her masters in Global Smart City at Sungkyunkwan University. She completed an Artificial Intelligence course at Yonsei University.
During her bachelor’s degree she won second prize in the UoU design competition in Spain and participated in the iF Architectural Workshop in London.
Her research interests include generative architectural design and designing structural systems using AI.
